Tissue Changes Induced by Low Frequency Electromagnetic Field Exposure and Circadian Cycle Alteration

Modern civilization is an electromagnetic one. Low frequency electromagnetic fields (EMFs) showed to exert quite subtle biologic effects as a consequence of continuous exposure of living beings to their influence and the summing up of their otherwise limited impact. If high frequency and microwave EMFs are now considered potentially dangerous due to some controversial experimental results and clinical observations, very low EMFs are still to be carefully watched and their biotropic effects statistically analyzed. (16) The present study tried to evaluate these possibly negative repercussions of low environmental EMFs, in rodents. On the one hand nyctohemeral cycles were disturbed; on the other hand, artificial 7 Gauss/50 Hz magnetic fields (MFs) were applied. Internationally accepted limits for professional exposure are now of 5 Gauss.
